Roxley Aug 2020 Newsletter

Is 2020 over yet?

This year has not gone the way anyone expected, to say the least! We hope all of you have been staying safe and healthy and have been finding opportunities to game safely with the people in your bubble.

Despite unexpected challenges in an unprecedented new world, Team Roxley has been working hard to move our projects forward.

What's happened since the last newsletter?

We released a game!

 gorilla-marketing-box

Gorilla Marketing, a parlour game of promotional primates, was released on March 4th.  To learn more about this hilarious new title and to order it directly from Roxley, visit roxley.com/products/gorilla-marketing (or ask about it at your FLGS).

We ran a Kickstarter!

Fusion-boxes

Steampunk Rally Fusion, the long-awaited standalone expansion to the fan-favorite Steampunk Rally, was a smashing success on Kickstarter from April 28th through May 14th, raising nearly $800,000! The final stages of pre-production have been moving along smoothly, and production is beginning now.

We fulfilled a Kickstarter!

iron-clays

The Iron Clays & Iron Spades arrived in warehouses in May, and despite a few hiccups related to the entire world locking down, our fulfillment partners around the world all did a fantastic job of getting this complex project out the door and on the way to backers. This campaign was the most logistically ambitious project that Roxley has ever undertaken, and we’re tremendously thankful for everyone who supported it.

If you missed out on the project or would like to order more clays, the Preorder store is still live; orders placed there are being processed and sent to fulfillment centres weekly. Visit iron-clays-and-spades.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders for more information.

Brass continues to impress!

brass-bgg

If you’re a frequent visitor to BoardGameGeek, you may have noticed that in June, Brass Birmingham rose into the number 3 spot on the BGG overall game rankings! All of Team Roxley are tremendously humbled and extremely excited to share a place with some of the best games ever designed. Thank you to all of you who have taken the time to give this, and our other titles, your honest rating; this literally could not have happened without your support.

Brass is back in stock!

brass-birmingham

Both Birmingham and Lancashire have been flying off the shelves since their release, and keeping them in stock has been a challenge, especially with worldwide delays due to COVID-19. But the latest reprint of Brass arrived in July, and all backorders have been sent. Thanks to all of you who ordered it, and who waited so patiently for its arrival.

If you’ve been waiting for its return, retail versions of both games should be orderable now by your friendly local game store, or you can order the Deluxe Version directly from Roxley here:

Santorini: New York

santorini-ny

What’s this? Santorini: New York?!?

That’s right, formerly Project APPLE in our previous newsletter, Santorini: New York has been officially announced! Coming this holiday season from Roxley and Spinmaster, the game puts players in the work boots of builders constructing a grand city at the start of the 20th century.

Santorini: New York is far more than a reskin or an expansion – it is a completely new game that adopts the core “move and build” mechanic of the original Santorini, but combines it with exciting new mechanics, including support for 2 to 5 players. Designed once by Dr. Gordon Hamilton and developed by Roxley, Santorini: New York is expected to be released in November 2020.

How does Santorini: New York play?

Each game uses 4 roles: an Engineer, a Builder, a Specialist, and a Mover. Each role is represented by 6 numbered cards, which are shuffled into a central deck. Players start with 5 cards and simultaneously selecting the role they want to play. Turn order is determined by lowest to highest number – but the player who played the highest takes the Statue of Liberty and is the only one who can win the game on that turn, creating an intense and dynamic ‘all vs 1’ environment on every turn of the game. Players reshuffle the discards and refill their hands after playing four of their five cards.

With Skyscrapers regularly being built by the Engineer, more and more spaces in the city grid get blocked off, so the tension is constantly rising. And with 14 different role card sets included but only 4 being used each game, there is a huge amount of replayability and fun to be discovered in Santorini: New York!

What's coming next?

Let’s start by updating our handy Project Status Table:

 project-status-2020-08

Timelines have changed, and progress has advanced on several different projects, but things are continuing to march forward across the board. We’re very excited to see production underway for Dice Throne Adventures, Season 1 Rerolled, and Steampunk Rally Fusion!
Skyrise and Santorini: Pantheon are now likely to be 2021 projects. But we do have another surprise game coming before the end of 2020, so stay tuned for more!

Thank you to all of our customers for ongoing support. We wish you and your families continued health and safety in these trying times.

Keep rollin’ sixes!
